Thailand Jan 2009

You do actually see monks walking around in their robes. We were having a refreshment in the quickie-mart across the street from the Wat when this young fellow came in for his fix of chips and soda.
There were some beautiful old teak buildings to be found in the northern cities.
We were quite envious of all the beautiful orchids we saw everywhere - you could buy them at the market for about $1.
Thai curry, rice, pizza and garlic bread - a meal to make mom, dad, and Zane happy.
The infamous Siamese fighting fish, which we spotted only once, at the market in Chang Rai.
Not a good time to check e-mail at the local internet establishment - school is out and the place is packed with gamers. At least ONE of the kids put their shoes on the rack.
Everywhere you go - scooters, scooters, scooters. Carrying families, dogs, huge boxes, building materials, you name it. More than once we saw 4 people on a scooter. Amazingly, the way these things zip in and out of traffic, I saw only one accident while we were there and it was minor.
Hill Tribe women in traditional costume welcome us to their village. Their costumes and craftwork are amazing. They are trying to hold onto their traditions which is challenging for them.
There were many interesting things to see in Thailand.
